From the information returned from the ati6 command, look for the word Speed followed by 2 sets of numbers. It will look something like: speed 48000/28800. The first number listed is the download speed of your connection. This first number is the 56K (V.90) part of your connection. It is the speed that Simply Internet communicates with your modem. This number is usually In the 42000 to 48000 range. Check at http://www.56k.com the Trouble Shooting section if your download speed is not within this range. The second number listed is the upload speed of your connection. This second number is the speed at which your modem communicates with Simply Internet. This speed will not exceed 33,600Kbps
To disconnect after checking your speed, type ath and press the enter key. If you are dialing into a local access number and are not getting successful connections, you might want to try calling it a few more times. Remember that the phone company routes each call in a different fashion. If you've called into your local access number multiple times and never gotten a 56Kbps (V.90) connection, then you might want to call a different number, perhaps one that is long distance, to verify that there is no problem with the switching equipment with your local phone company.
